Purses and Wallets
PURSES, WALLETS, CARD HOLDERS, OR ID HOLDERS. THESE ARE THE QUINTESSENTIAL ORGANIZERS. IF YOUR HANDBAG IS IMPORTANT, YOUR WALLET IS ESSENTIAL.
After all, they keep all your daily essentials: credit cards, money, receipts… They can have a thousand compartments, be simple, super flat, or with frames, just like the one your grandmother had. They come in leather or exotic skins. Whatever its style, a good wallet is undeniably a must-have.
In the world of vintage wallets you can find a wide range of leathers and finishes whose purpose was to provide the greatest durability and resistance to ageing.
Exotic skins such as snake, tortoise, crocodile, lizard, ostrich, and eel skin are perfect for wallet making. Since they cover small surfaces, only one exemplary is needed, and given their elasticity they can adapt to the content without cracking and getting softer over time.
Wallets do not come only in leather: tissues such as canvas and raffia, upholstery and Petit Point embroidery are often used in wallet making. Although not very popular for everyday use, you can find wallets with beads and stones, usually made to match evening bags.
Patent and synthetic leather are probably the most used in wallet making, being low maintenance and offering a wide variety of finishes and colours at a much lower price than genuine leather.
Traditional leather, i.e., cowhide, goatskin, calfskin, and lambskin offer the greatest robustness, firmness, and sturdiness. With time, they become polished, increasing their value. It is the perfect feature of these items that are constantly coming in and out of our bags. In addition, they come in multiple colours, textures, and finishes: the possibilities are endless.
